AWARDS NIGHT A FITTING END TO SUCCESSFUL SEASON
The end of season presentation night held at one of Celtic's sponsors - Garden Cafe and Lounge bar at the weekend, saw special guest Andy Clark, the Football Budapest League Founder and Manager, present the A Liga trophy to Laurence Coen. This coupled with the Duncan Shiels Vandorkupa earlier in the day, set the tone for celebrations throughout the night as players were rewarded for their individual contributions on and off the pitch as the night wore on. The trophies can be seen at another of Budapest Celtic's sponsors, Caledonia bar.
Laurence Coen has decided to step down as General Manager after successfully guiding Celtic to the league's first ever double winners and hands over the reigns to Matt Watson Broughton. 'Loz' will not be hanging up his boots yet, so fellow players can still enjoy hearing his obscenities at a training ground in the near future!
Many thanks to squad member Phil Duarte, for taking the photographs throughout the night, some of which are posted below.

CELTIC ADD DUNCAN SHIELS CUP FOR UNPRECEDENTED DOUBLE WINNING SEASON!
The historic 2008/09 season finally came to a double celebratory close on Saturday for Budapest Celtic, after they clinched the Duncan Shiels Vandorkupa against a determined and very good Kaledonians side by 3 goals to 2.
After the League Champions epic victory over Vikings the week before and topping the lague table, Celtic earned themselves the favourite tag, but looking at the two sides over a period of 90 minutes it was hard to distinguish which team was which. The Kaledonians who had also been on a fine end of season run themselves to cement their A Liga status, started the game with a very high tempo, in which Celtic had to respond to make sure they never fell a goal behind.
The first goal was very fortuitous for the green and white hoops, but also embedded the nature of the game that every tackle was worth chasing down for both sides. Paul Bartlett went in for a challenge with Eamon O' Flynn where the resulting ball flew into the air and bounced wildly over the head of the onrushing keeper, Paul Ensor and into the back of the net. Further chances came and went for both teams in the first half but the score was to remain 1-0. The second half produced even more goal scoring opportunities thanks to some encouraging and lively moves combined with tired legs as the heat got the better of some players. Celtic doubled their lead after a quick throw from Chris Dobson sent Neil Evans down the laft flank and whip in a low cross for Vlad Panov to bury at the near post. If Celtic thought that they had at last got one hand on the cup they were badly mistaken as their sister club replied in quite a fashion. Fergal Strumble gave the ball away in the centre of the park and Kally broke away with pace eventually sending a through ball to Antonio Domingues who slotted cooly past Janos Barits to put the Kaledonians back in contention. It was so nearly 2-2 when a delicate lob from Domingues just narrowly missed the outside of the Celtic left post. Ensor was then thrown into action down the other end of the pitch as a long range effort from Panov was tipped onto the post and bounced on the goal line before being cleared away. Celtic did restore their two goal lead in some fashion after a quick free kick from Evans to Szilard Kardhordo, saw the latter fire a shot into the top corner from 25 metres out. Moments later with Celtic still celebrating, Julian Helble caught Domingues late in the box to allow Kally playmaker Turlough Adley make it 3-2 with 18 minutes still to play. With more injuries to both teams and players running out of steam, the game had relatively few further chances and Celtic managed to be the first team in Football Budapest to win the league and cup double.
Thanks to a great effort from both teams it was a fitting end to a season which has seen some of the highest quality football on a consistent basis in the A and B Liga's since the league formed back in 2001.
Celtic wish to congratulate the Kaledonians for a fantastic and well played match, as well as all the supporters that came to cheer on both sides and the sponsors for their continued support throughout our campaign. Also a big thanks to Andy Clark for presenting the trophy and making the league happen.

Joint Top Goalscorers, Szilard and Neil.

CELTIC 2ND TEAM CONTINUE UNBEATEN START WITH B LIGA SCALP
Budapest Celtic 2nd Team 7– 0 Akademia Orczy, Epitok, Sunday March 15th 2009
After their impressive 2-2 draw with A Liga outfit Kaledonians last weekend, the Celtic 2nds notched their first victory at the expense of B Liga team Akademia Orczy. It was an excellent overall team performance in only their second outing as a team and included some very finely worked goals. The exceptional Abdul Saleh Alghanmi notched his first hat trick in Celtic colours, whilst young Bulgarian striker Ivan Stankov bagged a brace as did another debutant, German Jasper Zebner who had a tireless game in midfield. The team managed by Graham Hardy from the touchline started with a 3-5-2 formation with veterans Jim Luby and Mike Hughes capping excellent performances alongside new signing Jakob Binder. Zebner was ably supported in central midfield with the defensive role of Peter Csaszar and the ever-running Johny Bennett and the wide play was provided by club stalwarts Nigel Killeen and Kieran Fahy who both seemed to have a new leash of life with their young teammates. János Barits had a quiet game in goal but when he was called into action he dealt with the trouble with ease. Martin Menson and Viktor Augustin also had debuts coming on in the second half and seamlessly fitted in, whilst there was also time for a cameo appearance from Celtic first team striker Vlad Panov.
After this performance, it is realistic to say that the Celtic 2nd team, who are hoping to join the B Liga in the 2009/10 season, will be a welcome addition and will also prove to be a very tough opposition whoever they play.
Currently they are looking for oppostion in the coming months, so anybody who wishes to challenge them please contact us for more information.
Budapest Celtic's success on the pitch would not be possible without the fantastic support we get off the pitch.
